The Essence of Islam
The concept of Tawheed (Monotheism) is the most fundamental belief in Islam. It is the belief that Allah is One, unique, and has no partners. Understanding Tawheed is not just an intellectual exercise; it dictates how a Muslim lives their life, who they fear, and who they rely upon.
Tawheed ar-Rububiyyah (Lordship)
This category involves believing that Allah alone is the Creator, Sustainer, and Master of the universe. He alone controls the rising of the sun, the falling of the rain, and life and death. Knowing this brings immense peace to the heart, as we realize that ultimate control lies only with Him.
Tawheed al-Uluhiyyah (Worship)
Because Allah is the sole Creator and Master, He alone deserves to be worshipped. This means that our prayers, our fasts, our charity, our sacrifices, and our ultimate devotion must be directed exclusively to Allah, without associating any intermediaries or partners with Him.
Tawheed al-Asma was-Sifat (Names and Attributes)
This aspect involves affirming the beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah as they are mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, without altering their meaning, denying them, or comparing them to human attributes. For example, Allah is The All-Seeing (Al-Baseer), but His seeing is not like our seeing.
